Product Description
A gentle comedy of character adapted from a highly regarded, little known story by Thomas Hardy. A new curate tries to renew old Mrs Chundle's enthusiasm for church going by inventing deaf aids that will enable her to hear his sermons. The successful invention backfires on him when he is overwhelmed with the pungent fumes of her favourite cabbage and onion soup. He dismantles his invention, and loses interest in saving her soul, delaying a promised visit to Mrs Chundle. He arrives the day after she's died, to find to his horror that she died considering him the best friend she's ever had. "Like Peter at cock crow", the curate despairs - then sets off to try to continue living.
